“22^nd Amateur Boxing Competition in Calamba, Misamis Occidental”  

 

The 22^nd Amateur Boxing Competition held last July 25, 2008 at Mateo Matunog Gymnasium was sponsored by the Local Government of Calamba headed by Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA.

 

About twenty (20) amateur boxers from the municipalities of Calamba, Baliangao, Plaridel and Sapang Dalaga joined the competition. And every game lasted for 4 rounds only.  For the past 5 years boxing is one of the most popular sports in the municipality aside from basketball.

 

Municipal Mayor Villanueva said that Calambahanons are fanatic in boxing but we don’t have local boxers who will compete nationally and in international boxing competition. So the LGU of Calamba sponsored this kind of sports (boxing sports) for it would be a training ground for our local boxers to develop their talents in boxing. 

 

People from all walks of life flocked to the gymnasium to witness the competition. The gymnasium echoed with people cheering for their favorite boxers. Viewers really enjoyed the boxing because it’s an entertaining sport for everyone.
