 The Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental hosted the 1st Mass Civil Wedding 

The Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental spearheaded by Municipal Mayor Ezel T. Villanueva hosted the 1st mass civil wedding ceremony held last August 20, 2014 at the Municipal Quadrangle.

32 couples were supposed to be married but only 26 showed up. 

26 couples who have been living together for five years or more have finally tied the knot during the mass civil wedding ceremony.  Some of them already have children and some of the brides were pregnant.   

The wedding ceremony started at 4 o’clock in the afternoon and lasted about almost 2 hours. The ceremony is definitely the most unforgettable event of the LGU that 26 couples finally tying their not. 

Municipal Mayor Villanueva solemnized the union of the couples.  The ceremony is part of her birthday celebration. 

The brides and grooms walked the aisle of the Municipal Quadrangle to exchange their vows that formalized their union as husband and wife.  The brides wore the traditional wedding gowns while the grooms wore barong tagalog. 

The Local Government Unit does not charge any solemnization fees. The event helped couples who wish to be married but do not have the funds for a ceremony. Furthermore, it supports the wellbeing of the family especially the less fortunate family. 

Mayor Villanueva gives the 26 couples a wedding cakes from Goldilocks as her gift to the newly wed while Provincial Vice Governor Almonte handed a white envelope (cash inside) to both husband and wife as her gift also. 

The weeding soloists were Ms. Jan Kresselle J. Balungag and MLGOO Mr. Jomar B. Ricafort. They serenade the couples with love songs while walking down the aisle and exchanging their vows. 

Provincial Statistics Officer Mr. Julito Pilar one of the principal sponsors, during his speech he tackled how wedding is important to Filipino couples in their commitment and love for each other, the legality of marriage. He also added how unmarried parents negatively affect the well-being of their children. 

The principal sponsors were the Sangguniang Bayan Members, Provincial Vice Governor Virgina Aurora M. Almonte, Provincial Statistics Officer Mr. Julito Pilar. The Principal Sponsors from the Provincial Government traveled just to take part in the ceremony. 

The Local Civil Registrar Office headed by Mrs. Bernardita S. Notarion prepared the necessary documents for marriage licenses for free. 

The mass wedding aims to legitimize the union and strengthen the bond of couples.
