The Province of Misamis Occidental celebrates its 84th anniversary. One of the main activities that highlight the celebration is the Pas’ungko Festival. The Pas’ungko Festival featured the Subanen Tribes tradition and culture.
The contingent from the Municipality of Calamba emerged as winner of the ritual competition of the Pas’ungko Festival held last November 10, 2013 at the Provincial Quadrangle in Oroquieta City. The Calamba contingent defeated 15 other contingents from the Municipalities and 2 Cities namely Oroquieta and Ozamis City. Students from the Calamba National Comprehensive High School were the contingent that represents the Municipality of Calamba.
Calamba has been joining the Pas’ungko Festival for the past 2 years, but this time the contingent from Calamba take home the grand prize for the ritual competition.
Aside from winning the grand prize for the ritual competition which earned them P 100,000.00 prize, they were also the 2nd place for the street dancing competition; they were also named as Best in Props. For the Pas’ungko Festival Queen, the 1st runner-up spot went to Ms. Daniella Dayrita Namocatcat from Calamba.
The musical instruments made from bamboos and the Agong amazed the judges. The dance steps and costumes really portrayed the Subanen culture, tradition and their way of living. The dancers put so much emotion to their performance that made them the winner.
The next day after the Pas’ungko Festival held at Oroquieta City, the Calambahon gathered together at Calamba Municipal Quadrangle to watch the winning peace of our kababayan. In front of the people, the Calamba contingent showed their wonderful performance that made them the winner.
The Calambahanon and the Local Government Unit of Calamba headed by Municipal Mayor Ezel T. Villanueva were so proud of our kababayan for the achievement and honor they brought to our municipality.
To the students of Calamba National Comprehensive High School congratulations!!!
