Women’s Month 2009 Culmination Program

The whole month celebration of the Women’s Month of the Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental started last March 1, 2009 with a Calamba Federated Women’s Basketball League 2009 which was participated by different Women’s Organization from the 19 Barangays then the celebration ended with a Women’s Month Culmination Program held last March 31, 2009 at 8 o’clock in the morning at Mateo Matunog Gymnasium. This year’s theme: “KABABAYEN-AN, MAKUGIHON UG LIG-ON MOBAROG ALANG SA KALAMBUAN” 

The culmination program started with a parade around the Poblacion area as early as 8’ o clock in the morning. After the parade the guests proceed to the gymnasium for the proper program.

One of the highlights of the program is the Medical Screening Outreach Program for Women on paps smear and breast examination sponsored by Hon.  Edelma C. Bulawin - Board Member of the 1^st District of Misamis Occidental. They provide free paps smear but unfortunately only 20 women were eager to be examined. The Municipal Health Officer of Sapang Dalaga provides information regarding on how to examine the breasts. This is the first time a medical screening outreach program held during the Women’s Month.   

After the fellowship lunch the Coronation of Mutya ng Kababaihan 2009 followed. Ms. Nardelyn Ansing Dionson of Barangay Libertad was crowned as the Mutya ng Kababaihan 2009.

Almost all of the Women of the 19 Barangays presented a dance presentation through this they showed the other side of them.  They are not only good in taking caring of their families but they are also talented mothers.

Municipal Officials headed by Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA, Municipal Vice Mayor Jesus C. Enerio, Sangguniang Bayan Member and SB Committee Chairman on Women Hon. Judelyn E. Bolotaolo, SB Member Joelito G. Intong,  SB Member Nathaniel A. Neri and ABC President Hon. Ezel T. Villanueva attended the culmination program.

According to Mayor Villanueva, the Philippines is the sixth county that gives rights to women. Women in the Philippines were given the right to vote and to be employed compared to other countries.  Most of the government and private employees today were women. Even in politics especially in the Philippines women dominated it example of this is the Philippines President Gloria M. Arroyo. Women are more knowledgeable and in health women has longer life span compared to men. In home women are the one budgeted the expenses of the family.         

Hon. Edelma C. Bulawin Board Member of the 1^st District of Misamis Occidental graced the occasion. She said that women should be given importance. The women have a major role in the family. 

The celebration of women’s Month showcased the hidden talents of women especially in basketball.  

The occasion made possible thru the efforts of the Office of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development headed by Mrs. GUDELIA I. CASTAÑOS the MSDW Officer and all the Women Organization of the 19 Barangays of Calamba, Misamis Occidental.
