INAUGURATION OF ROTUNDA MAGSAYSAY
Magsaysay Rotunda is one of town’s landmarks. Last February 9, 2009 at 4 o’clock in the afternoon during the opening of the 61st Araw ng Calamba, one of town’s landmarks Rotunda Magsaysay was inaugurated. The improvement and beautification of Rotunda Magsaysay was spearheaded by the Calamba Local Tourism Council headed by Engr. Ezel T. Villanueva the wife of Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr. and the current ABC President.
At first the rehabilitation of Magsaysay Rotunda was only a dream because of luck of funds and it will costs a big amount of money but through the financial assistance of Calambahanons especially those Calambahanons working and living abroad the improvement and beautification was realized.
Engr. Ezel closely monitored the rehabilitation of the Rotunda Magsaysay. She even solicited her relatives in abroad just to acquire money to finance the rehabilitation.
Mr. Pedro A. Clapano, Sr. one of the pillars of the construction of the old Magsaysay Rotunda way back 1960’s was very emotional during his speech. Mr. Clapano started his speech by introducing himself and explaining the history of the construction of Rotunda Magsaysay during his time when he was a member of ELHA or Everlasting Happiness Association. Mr. Clapano has a teary-eyed speech. He can’t believe that he is now seeing one of Calamba’s beautiful landmarks. He never thought that the Calambahanons will give important to the monument.
One of the donors in person of Dr. Lemuel G. Villanueva a Calambahanon who now resides in Gorgia, USA graced the occasion. He was amazed when he saw the new Rotunda Magsaysay. He was 5 years old when the old rotunda constructed.
The Donations as of February 6, 2009 are 4,040 dollars and 92,327.50 pesos.
The project is realized through the initiative of the members of the Calamba Local Tourism Council under the chairmanship of Engr. Ezel T. Villanueva and supported by the Local Government Unit headed by Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA.
The rehabilitation of this landmark is the biggest accomplishment of the Calamba Local Tourism Council.
