    The Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental observed the town fiesta last May 15, 2008 honoring its Patron Saint Isidore.  The municipality continued its past tradition of celebrating the town fiesta which until now the constituents/churches continued like doing the locally known “Diana”. The combined task of the Local Government Unit of Calamba and the Church is to give tribute to our town Calamba and more important is to give respect/honor to our devotion to Patron Saint Isidore the Patron of laborers and farm animals. The celebration of the town fiesta is for good harvest of crops, animals and blessing for the whole year and at the same time the homecoming of townsfolk. 

 

    Streets of Calamba along the Municipal Hall were so busy with vendors from the neighboring municipalities and from other provinces displaying their goods. During fiesta day, especially in the Poblacion area hundreds of pedestrians are all over the streets that makes the surroundings more festive.

    Every night people from all walks of life flocked to the Municipal Quadrangle to take rides of the ferries wheel and horror cave which the children enjoyed a lot.    

    The activities prepared by the Local Government Unit and other organization that highlights Saint Isidore’s festivities.  The festivities start on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 to May 21, 2008.

    The town fiesta is also a homecoming or visit of townsfolk of their relatives, and friends. Visitors stayed in Calamba not only to witness the town’s fiesta but also to explore the local tourist spots in the municipality.  Last May 13, 2008 to May 14, 2008 local mountaineers spearheaded by Tamakan Mountaineers of Calamba, Misamis Occidental with the other mountaineers from the nearby municipalities explore the San Isidro Waterfalls.   They were amazed of the beauty of nature upon watching the San Isidro Falls located 7 kilometers away from the heart of the municipality and it is located at Barangay San Isidro.

    The festivity of Saint Isidore displayed the local talents of the Calambahanons through a dance contest held last May 13, 2008 at 7 o’clock in the evening and which was participated by professional and amateur dancers from the municipalities/cities  of Calamba, Baliangao, Sapang Dalaga, Jiminez, Tudela, Dapitan City, Ozamis City. The dance contest was spearheaded by the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Southwestern Poblacion, Calamba, Misamis Occidental headed by Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman Julie S. Awa.  All of the participants were so competitive and the board of judges had hard time in choosing the best dancers. Contingent from the City of Ozamis got the grand prize for invitational dance category followed by contingent from Dapitan City then another group from Dapitan City got the third prize winner.  Another dance contest was held on the day of the Fiesta May 15, 2008 sponsored by Delta Phi Epsilon.

    Different sports also highlight the celebration like lawn tennis tournament which was participated by tennis players from the municipalities of Plaridel, Sapang Dalaga, Baliangao and etc. Volleyball for women and Inter-Barangay Basketball participated by basketball players from the 19 Barangays of Calamba. Inter-Barangay Basketball sponsored by the Local Government Unit of Calamba spearheaded by Federated Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Jyziel C. Lansang together with the SK Chairman of the 19 Barangays of the municipality. Basketball fanatic had the opportunity watching their crushes and local basketball idols. Teens and adults were given the opportunity to play basketball. Almost every night the municipal gymnasium echoed with fans cheering their favorite basketball players and supporters were yelling.

    The search for Miss Gay and Mcgay 2008 held last May 18, 2008 and sponsored by Sangguniang Kabataan of Solinog headed by SK Chairman Dan Bryle B. Samosa, made the fiesta celebration more colorful and fun. Gays from the neighboring municipalities joined the search.  Talent portions and production numbers of the participants made the search more colorful.  

    A back to back live band and dance contest sponsored by San Miguel Beer in cooperation with Delta Phi Epsilon (Beta Phi Chapter Calamba) held last May 15, 2008.  Young and young at hearts enjoyed the dance contest and at the same time the live band played the new hits in town.  

    The festivity ended with a bicycle racing. Different biker’s from the nearby municipalities participated the racing.

    This year’s celebration of Calamba’s town fiesta was successful through the efforts and cooperation of the Municipal Officials, churches, constituents and different organizations.
