The Opening Salvo of the 60th Foundation Anniversary of the Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental was formally opened by the Department of Education in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental. The opening salvo held last February 7, 2008, 7 o’clock in the evening at Mateo Matunog Gymnasium.
Constituents of Calamba, Misamis Occidental and visitors from the nearby municipalities witnessed the different dance and song presentations of the Department of Education for the Opening Salvo of the 60th Foundation Anniversary of Calamba, Misamis Occidental.
This year’s opening salvo is more tremendous and special compare of last year because of the more expensive fireworks display, colorful costumes and electrifying dance and song presentations of the teachers from different private and public elementary, high school and college.
Before the opening salvo program started, a massive fireworks display completely light up the sky that made the viewers appreciated the occasion that night. The twenty (20) minutes fireworks display and designed fireworks add color to the opening salvo. The fireworks display also signals the start of the variety of activities for the whole week celebration of the 60th Foundation Anniversary.
The collections of talented teachers when it comes to dancing and singing set the entire gymnasium on fire for a few hours. Teachers showed their hidden talents in singing and dancing which made the audience especially the students’ cheers for their favorite teachers. The entire gymnasium echoed with laughter, music of the latest dance craze in town and yelling.

Students were so proud watching of their mentors. That special night, for the students their teachers were the stars of the night that glitter in the middle of the dance floor.
The DepEd-CHEd Night showed that teachers are not only mentor when it comes to education but they are also a good example of showing talents. The occasion showed the other side of teachers.

The first performers were the teachers from Bunawan Elem. School, Calaran Elem. School, Pestañas Elem School and Langub Elem. School. Their dance presentation is a tango medley that reminisce the old memories.
The second performers were the teachers from the Liberation Institute and performed the latest dance craze “Beautiful Girl”.

The third performers were teachers from Southwestern Poblacion Elementary School and Singalat Elementary School.
The Philippine Independent Christian School teachers were the fourth performers.
Teachers from Bonifacio Elem. School, Mamalad Elem. School, Mauswagon Elem. School, Salvador Elem. School, San Isidro Elem. School and Sulipat Elem. School were the fifth performers. Their costumes and dance made them look like teenagers.
The sixth performers were teachers from Calamba National Comprehensive High School. Their unique and attractive costumes and dance made them look like cowboys.
The seventh performance shows the electrifying conga dance presentation from the school teachers of Calamba Central Elementary School.
Teachers from Janseen Technical Institute, Sacred Heart College and Misamis Computer College performed modern dances.
Mentors from Dapacan Alto Elem. School, Dapacan Bajo Elem. School, Libertad Elem. School and Siloy Elem. School performed the ballroom dance to the tune of Bahama Mamas.
After the dance presentation, live band performances of teachers made the audience danced; love struck and recalled the old times of their teenage life.
Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA graced the occasion and with an inspiring message that emphasized the quality of education of the municipality; teachers should upgrade their skills and knowledge and continues learning. Education has no limit. Teachers should be more eager to continue to learn more and improved more of their skills for them to be able to teach new things to the students.
The breathtaking performance of teachers made the Opening Salvo of the 60th Foundation Anniversary of Calamba, Misamis Occidental more special, colorful and elegant.
