The Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental celebrated its 60th Foundation Anniversary on February 7-14, 2008 with this year’s theme “ANG CALAMBA KAGAHAPON UG KARON UBAN SA GUGMA UG PANAGHIUSA KALAMBUAN SA TANAN”. Calamba was inaugurated into a municipality on February 14, 1948. The celebration of the Foundation Anniversary will take 8 days. The one week celebration will be filled with activities that will entertain the Calambahanon, visitors and guests. The activities will be organized by the Local Government Unit of Calamba in cooperation with the Department of Education, Government and Private Institution.
Municipal Officials and Employees, Barangay Officials, teachers, students and guests sung the Calamba March while the barangay captains of the 19th Barangays raised their respective barangay banner. Singing of the Calamba March highlights the opening activity.
Interfaith Service held right after the flag and banners raising ceremony. Part of the opening ceremony of the Foundation Anniversary is a one hour Interfaith Service held at Don Mateo Matunog Gymnasium. The Interfaith Service led by different religious ministers from the different churches in Calamba. Religious ministers offered their prayers for Government Officers and Employees, Peace and Order, Juvenile Delinquents, Agriculture, Education especially for the less fortunate that can’t afford to send their children to school, Honesty in business, Hospital Doctors and Employees, Philippine National Police, Senior Citizen, Disabled, Poor and the outcast in society, Transportation especially the safety of the passengers, Unity and love in the family especially for the broken home and a Subanen prayer for the success of the celebration of the Menajak Festival 2008 (60th Foundation Anniversary).
The Interfaith Service, which was held on the first day of the celebration, was well-attended by the Municipal Officials headed by Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA, Sangguniang Bayan Members, Barangay Officials, National and Municipal Employees, teachers, students and among others.
This year’s celebration offers 8 days daily contests activities for students in Elementary, High School and College that will enhance/boosts their talents for singing and dancing. The 60th Foundation Anniversary showcased the much awaited Search of Lakambini ng Calamba 2008 which features the beauties and talents of the Calambahanon. The Search of Lakambini ng Calamba 2008 highlights the celebration of the 60th Foundation Anniversary. The candidates of the Lakambini ng Calamba 2008 was presented to the public last December 22, 2007 during the Calamba Community Christmas Festival.
