The month of October every year has been declared as National Children’s Month. The whole country is celebrating the National Children’s Month in recognition of the Filipino Children and the role of a nurturing family and good education in producing a bright child. The Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental through the Office of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development held the National Children’s Month last October 24, 2007 with the theme “BRIGHT CHILD: KARAPATAN NASA’YO, ISIGAW SA BUONG MUNDO”. The celebration started with a parade along the municipality as early as 8:30 o’clock in the morning. After the parade all the preschoolers, parents and daycare teachers proceed to Don Mateo Matunog Gymnasium for the program proper.
Preschoolers, teachers and parents from the different daycare centers of Calamba gathered together to celebrate the yearly National Children’s’ Month.
Honored guests were Municipal Vice Mayor Jesus C. Enerio in behalf of Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr. MNSA, who can’t attend the occasion because he is in Davao attending a seminar, Sangguniang Bayan Member Zenaida C. Medija and MSWDO Staff.
According to Municipal Vice Mayor Jesus C. Enerio that the theme for this year’s National Children’s Month is “Bright Child: Karapatan Nasa’yo, Isigaw Sa Buong Mundo”. It means that developing and nourishing the child will produce a bright child. Parents should support their child’s education and dreams so that someday Calamba will have future lawyers, teachers, nurses and even municipal councilors; parents should teach their children how to respect others especially the older people and respect their teacher. Teachers and parents should work closely to produce a bright child. Parents should value their children for them to experience a happy family. Through nurturing family, care, love and good education we can produce a bright child and this children will be an asset to the society and nation in the near future.
The guest speaker of the occasion is a School Principal of Sacred Heart College Elementary Department and Sangguniang Bayan Member Zenaida C. Medija she said that “parents should treasure the day when their kids attended/participated activities that would help boosts their self-esteem and talents. She also added that parents when you get home ask your children what they feel while attending the Children’s Month Celebration. Parents should find ways and spend time to attend all their children’s activities for them to enjoy and at the same time earn experience and education. I want to pass a resolution to the Sangguniang Bayan that next year I want all the private preschoolers to join this event for them to see how many kids are in preschools and experience in celebrating the Children’s Month”.
Numerous presentations of preschoolers from the different daycare centers highlight the affair. One of the preschoolers sung the popular song of Freddie Aguilar “Anak”. Parents, guests who were present that day feel the message of the song and it touched their hearts and the important of being a parents and how to raise a child. Though most of the kids didn’t understand the song’s message but they enjoyed listening to it.
The municipal gym echo with noise and cheerfulness, most of the kids were running and roaming around and at the same time enjoying the program.
The latter parts of the program are parlor games like sack race, trip to Jerusalem and ball relay were most of kids enjoyed it. Through those games children were thought to be competitive and know what team work is.
At the end of the program all the children who attended the occasion were so happy and parents and teachers were so proud.
