The municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental won the 2nd prize of the Kinagang Ritual Competition during the Langaranan Festival. The Langaranan Festival is one of the highlights during the centennial celebration of the Municipality of Plaridel, Misamis Occidental. The Langaranan festival was held last September 9, 2007 at the Municipal quadrangle of Plaridel, Misamis Occidental. Calamba Menajak Dance Troupe was the representative from Calamba.
It was a showcase of distinct and unique customs wore by the contingents and through dances and drum beats it will make the younger generation of Plaridel to value their festival.
The festival were participated by four (4) contingents from Oroquieta City, Calamba, Misamis Occidental, Bacolod, Lanao del Norte and Ozamis City.
The festival was attended by mayors from the nearby municipalities and other towns and the guest speaker was Congresswoman Marina P. Clarete of the 1st District of
Misamis Occidental.
Local talents picked and chosen by the tourism council of Calamba, Misamis Occidental to join and participate the Langaranan festival in Plaridel and they called their group Calamba Menajak Dance Troupe originally from the word Menajak Festival celebrated by the Calambahon every 14th of February. The participants from Calamba bring the name of the Calambahanon. The Calamba Menajak Dance Troupe under the management of the Calamba Local Tourism Council headed by no less that the chairman of the CLTC Engr. Eizel T. Villanueva the wife of the Municipal Mayor of Calamba, Misamis Occidental Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA.
The participants shouted with triumph when they heard their group announced as the 2nd prize winner of the Kinagang Ritual Competition among the four (4) contingents. When the emcee/organizer announced that 2nd prize winner goes to contingents from Calamba, they jumped with joy while running and shouting that they won. It was the 1st time they participated or joined in any festival and luckily they won. They can’t believe that they got the 2nd prize because all of the contingents from the other municipalities were all great.
The 1st prize winner received an amount of P 100,000.00 while the second prize winner also received a cash prize worth P 70,000.00 and P 50,000.00 went to the third prize winners. The non-winners received the consolation prize of P 5,000.00 each. Oroquieta City bagged the top prizes and the most awarded contingent. Contingent from Calamba got the 2nd prize of the Kinagang Ritual Competition so they received an amount of P 70,000.00 with trophy and the third prize goes to Bacolod, Lanao del Norte.
The Calambahon and the local officials spent time to watch the festival to give their full support to the contingents from Calamba.
Each of the participants from Calamba will be given a certificate from the Office of the Calamba Local Tourism Council as a proof that they will be the official members of the Calamba Menajak Dance Troupe and also as a souvenir that they participated during the Langaranan Festival of Plaridel, Misamis Occidental.
From a tiring contest the participants went home bringing the trophy and cash prize. While riding the truck going home to Calamba the participants were waving their hands and the drummers continued drumming announcing the whole Calamba that they won. The honor they received made the whole municipality proud.
To all the dancers from Calamba who participated the contest congratulation and we’re proud of you guys!!! The whole municipality is very proud of you!!!!
