 “2012 Town Fiesta of Calamba, Misamis Occidental”

St. Isidore the Farmer or locally know as San Isidro Labrador is the Patron Saint of Calamba. The feast of San Isidro Labrador has been celebrated May 15. Calamba is mainly an agricultural area wherein Calambahanons living in the rural areas devoted into farming. Saint Isidore the Patron Saint of farm workers.     

The Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental in coordination with the churches and other participating sectors worked hand in hand for the success of the celebration.  The 9 Days Novena (from May 7-15) for the Patron Saint and streets decoration formally opened the festivities.

Sports like lawn tennis and soccer were held to entertain visitors especially those sports enthusiasts.  

The fiesta is one of the important occasions next to Christmas and New Year for the Calambahanons. Those Calambahanons living outside Calamba were reunited with their families and relatives during fiesta. The celebration not only commemorates the Patron but also it’s a family gathering. Most of the Calambahanons prepare for the occasion for about a year.

3 to 2 days before the actual date of the celebration, the streets of Calamba was so busy with people going to the groceries buying stocks needed for the occasion. The Calamba Bus Terminal busy with passengers visiting Calamba.

Almost every night, people from all walks of life especially children flocked to the Municipal Quadrangle for the rides and other games.

Lots of vendors from the neighboring municipalities displayed their goods like toys, kitchen utensils, use clothing or locally know as ukay ukay and other stuffs. Vendors were so busy entertaining customers.

The day before the event, the Calambahanons start cooking for the delicacies like sumans, torta, puto especial, cookies, salads and others.  Some of them so busy cleaning and preparing for their new curtains, bed sheets for their visitors and relatives to visit and sleep.

On the day of the fiesta, the streets busy for the church goers going to the church to attend the mass. And also the streets busy with vehicles and people or locally know “Mamistahay” visiting and entering one house to another.

There are no crimes reported during the celebration, so the occasion was peacefully celebrated.

The Calamba’s 2012 town fiesta was successful through the efforts of the Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental headed by Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA with the support of religious organization, participating sectors and the Calambahanos.
