National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2025

On July 01, 2025, the Local Government unit (LGU) of Calamba, Misamis Occidental, marked the commencement of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) with a vibrant motorcade around the municipality. This year‘s theme, “KUMIKILOS: Kayang Umaksyon ng Mamamayan na Isabuhay ang Kahandaan ng Bawat Isa para Maging Ligtas sa Oras  ng Sakuna.”  Underscores  the importance of proactive community involvement in disaster preparedness.

The event saw active participation from Municipal Officials, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management office (MDRRMO), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Philippine National Police PNP), and dedicated LGU employees. Their collective presence highlighted the community’s commitment to fostering a culture of readiness and resilience against potential disasters.

This initiative aligns with nationwide effort to promote disaster awareness and preparedness throughout July, as emphasize by the Department of the Interior and Local Government DILG). Such activities aim to educate and engage citizens in building a safer and more resilient.

ARAW NG KALAYAAN 2025

127TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

 On June 12, 2025, the Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental proudly celebrated the 127th Philippines independence Day (Araw ng Kalayaan) with theme “Freedom, Future, History” (Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan) at the LGU Atrium.

The event was spearheaded by Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr. MNSA, together with Vice Mayor Hon. Antonio N. Lawas, Sr., Member of the sanguniang Bayan, and LGU employees. Representatives from local and national agencies, barangay captain, the Philippines National Police (PNP),Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), public and private school teacher, Calamba district Hospital, and Moelce I were also in attendance.

This meaningful celebration serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Filipino in the name of democracy and highlighted the continuing importance of civil rights. It also emphasized the need to safeguard the hard-earned freedoms that define the Filipino identity, while fostering unity and celebrating our rich cultural heritage.

The program began with an opening prayer led by Municipal Architect Arch. Allan H. Bato, follow by a flag-raising ceremony by the PNP and a music performance by CNCHS Music Arts. The Welcome Address was delivered by Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr. MNSA, followed by an intermission number by CNCHS students. Mrs. Imma Y. Capundag, LGU Supply Officer, introduced the guest speaker, Arch. Nicole Elyze Tenorio-Cuenca, LGU Special Project Architect. The program also feature a heartfelt mass singing of “Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo” and concluded with closing remarks by Hon. Antonio N. Lawas Sr,. Municipal Vice Mayor.

77th Araw ng Calamba Celebration

The Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental, celebrated the 77th Araw ng Calamba on February 14, 2025. The celebration began with a grand parade at 8:00AM, led by Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanue Jr., MNSA, Municipal ViCe Mayor Hon. Antonio Lawas. They were joined by the Sanguniang Bayan member, National Agencies, Government employees, drum corp., teachers, student, and barangay captain along with officials and workers from the 19 barangay.

Following the parade, a Drum Corp Exhibition showcased the talents and skills of participating school. This exhibition added excitement to the celebration, providing entertainment for attendees and highlighting the dedication and hard work of the student performers.

In the afternoon, the highly anticipated Mob Dance Competition brought together students from High School and College, including the Sacred Heart College INC., Sacred Heart High School Department, Liberation Institute, Calamba National Comprehensives High School and College of Communication, Information and Technology (CCIT). The competition featured a diverse range of styles and performances, making for a thrilling event with impressive showcase from all participating schools.

The competition concluded with the following winners, 1st place: Sacred Heart High School Department 2nd place: Calamba National Comprehensive High School 3rd place: Sacred Heart College Inc. 4th place: Liberation Institute 5th place: CCIT College

These events not only promote friendly competition but also fostered a strong sense of community and camaraderie among the participating schools. The energy, talent and enthusiasms of the performers made for an enjoyable afternoon for everyone in attendance.

The evening festivities feature a live band performance at the Municipal Plaza, open to the public. The “Pakatawa sa Katawhan,”featured entertainment from Digos Good Vibes, Tawag ng Tanghalan finalist Aila Santos, R2K Band, Dj Shy Feye, and Dj Jhong. Attendees thoroughly enjoyed the performances, making it a memorable night for all.

On February 12, 2025, 7:00PM the one of the highlight of 77th Araw ng Calamba. Employee’s Night celebration as part of the 77th Araw ng Calamba Festivities. The event was organized to bring together employees from both private and Government agencies within the Municipality. The Theme of the celebration was “Ang Magkahiusang Calambahanon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon, ug malipayon.”

                MOELCI I Corevert Court, magcamiguing, Calamba, Misamis Occidental serve as the venue for the event, and it was overseen by key figures including Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva Jr., MNSA, Municipal Administrator Engr. Ezel T. Villanueva, Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Antonio Lawas, and members of the Sangguniang Bayan. Eight Clusters participated in the celebration, showcasing their talents through different dance presentation.
