“Alay Lakad 2013 of the Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental”

The yearly Alay Lakad held last September 24, 2013 at 4 o’clock in the morning. The walkathon for out-of-school youth was participated by Municipal Officials together with the Municipal Employees, non-government organizations, students from high school and college departments, religious organizations and other participating sectors joined the annual walk for charity.

According to Municipal Vice Mayor Jesus C. Enerio, the walk aims to give awareness to the Calambahanons that there are less privilege youths in the society that are in need of help for them to achieve a better life. 

Before the usual Alay Lakad started, there was a 15 minutes Hataw a dance exercise headed by Sacred Heart Faculties and students.

Aside for a walk the participants are then required to contribute a certain amount. This year’s contributions are as follows for the Chief of Executive and Legislative P 150.00, Municipal Vice Mayor and Sangguniang Bayan Members and Department Heads P 75.00, for the rank and file employees P 30.00; casual employees P 10.00, and P 1.00 for the students.

Education plays an important role in molding youths.  The funds raised are used to finance for the needy out-of-school youth.

The annual walk for charity continues to help in providing the out-of-school youth the technical and financial support to provide them educational assistance, livelihood training, skills training and projects for their personal development.

The idea of Alay Lakad started in Manila in 1972 and it was initiated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). 

Today, Calambahanons from all walks of life gathered together to participate the activity that showed concern for the welfare of the youth especially the out-of-school youth. Helping the youth by providing them education through scholars and skills training will strengthen the youth’s capability and improved the quality of youth in the society in general.
