“114th Rizal Day Celebration and Blessing of Rizal Rotunda of the Municipality of Calamba, Misamis Occidental”

The Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental joined the nationwide celebration of the 114th Rizal Day last December 30, 2010 at 7 o’clock in the morning.

The celebration started with a short parade from Municipal Quadrangle going to Rizal Rotunda as early as 7 in the morning. This year’s theme: RIZAL: HALIGI NG BAYAN”

After the parade a blessing ceremony of Rizal Rotunda was held. Rev. Fr. Fred Malalis of Catholic Parish Church conducted the blessing ceremony.

Rizal Rotunda is one of town’s landmarks. The improvement and beautification of Rizal Rotunda was realized through the initiative and joined efforts of the Local Council of Women (LCW) headed by Luz B. Villanueva, the Local Government Unit of Calamba, Misamis Occidental headed by Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA, Local Tourism Council Chaired by Hon. Ezel T. Villanueva, Calambahanons and other civic spirited citizens. The blessings of Rizal Rotunda highlight the event.

Right after the blessing a short program followed as a way of expressing our appreciation for Dr. Jose P. Rizal for his heroism in sacrificing his life for the love of his countrymen and his country. The floral offering was held at the foot of the Rizal monument

On behalf of Municipal Mayor Dr. Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., MNSA, Municipal Vice Mayor Jesus C. Enerio lead the commemoration of the 114th death anniversary of National Hero Jose P. Rizal at Rizal Rotunda.

Municipal Vice Mayor Enerio in his speech proud announcing to the Calambahanons who attended the celebration that the LGU of Calamba won P 1,000,000.00 for the Safe Good Housekeeping/Performance Challenge Incentive Awards under the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). The final screening was held last November 2010 and was conducted by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) personnel. It was also an honor for the Calambahanons.

Ms. Ordep Mae V. Quiza a former Lakambini ng Calamba 2008 and a Mutya ng Misamis Occidental 2010 was the guest of honor. In spite of her busy schedules she paves tribute to our National Hero through her inspiring speech/message.

Ms. Algie P. Nestal of Northern Philippines Technological College, Calamba, Misamis Occidental declaimed the Poem of Dr. Jose P. Rizal “My Last Farewell”

Despite of the heavy rains the guests and participating sectors up to the very end of the program continued standing in front of Rizal Monument holding their umbrellas. The small sacrifice only showed their respect to our National Hero.

This year Rizal Day Celebration was attended by Municipal Officials spearheaded by Municipal Vice Mayor Jesus C. Enerio, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Veterans Federation of the Philippines -Calamba Post, Sacred Heart College Faculties, Local Council of Women, Calamba District Hospital Personnel, Calamba National Comprehensive High School Faculties and Staffs, Calamba Teachers and Employees Association (CALTEA), MOELCI-I Personnel, Barangay Officials and Barangay Health Workers and National and Municipal Employees.
